Join us for the Wirral Poetry Festival’s lively annual poetry slam, when 12 selected poets will compete for the winner’s £100 prize
Please send us a video of you performing to be considered for the slam, using the Application Form button below.
- A shortlist of 12 poets for the Slam will be selected from all the online applications by the Festival’s Planning Team, taking into account quality of content, performance, and originality.
- The 12 selected competitors will be informed of their selection by Friday 18 September 2026 and asked to reconfirm their availability for the Slam event;
- At the Slam, competitors will perform poems of not more than 3 minutes.
- There will be three rounds (a different poem in each round for successful slammers) with eliminations at each round resulting in a final winner of the £100 prize.
- There will be an invited panel judges and they will consider the quality of content and performance as well as audience response. Their decisions will be final;
- Poems should be suitable for performance to a general audience which could include children;
- Please note that our festival has a zero-tolerance policy on oppressive behaviour, language and discussion, including transphobia, trans/misogyny, queerphobia, racism, anti-fatness, dis/ablism and any other types of bigotry.’
